Hi !
The latest two great releases : Naum 3 & Hiarcs 12 are the best protected chess engines in history. Naum 3 has deeply encrypted in executable the purchaser dates. Hiarcs 12 is protected by Armadillo.
But............Naum 3 was shared instantly and Hiarcs 12 was cracked in 36 hours ( !). All the commercial engines are available for free.
In this situation -why all this childish procedures with serial numbers, activation, protection...... ???????????
Who want to be a legal customer will be in any case (personal I have bought Fritz 11, Shredder 11, Zappa Mexico...... despite their presence like free on various sites ). This kind of procedures disturbed only the legal customers !
Regards,
Silvian

Re: Simple a question
Firstly, this is my opinion on the subject.
Today, you have to put some sort of security into such things.
If you don't then everybody assumes that it is fine to pass copies
around.
The point you've brought up is "how much security should to use?".
If you could create an unbreakable system, then that is good. The reality
seems that no such thing is possible.
I think some are still trying for a perfect system since open systems don't work.
So, why not have a weak system? It will keep the honest honest.
I know some people that would certainly "steal" if no system is used
and they will not put out enough effort (even going over the Internet)
if you use a reasonably strong system.
