Crafty overestimates me

Post by droid »

I use Crafty/Scid to analyze my games. I am especially weak in end-game play and try to use Crafty to see where I went wrong. But often, like if I Have King, Pawn and my opponent has only King, it quits analyzing! Crafty must think the play is so obvious that it need not continue, leaving me to wonder why I lost. :)

Is there some setting I can make to force Crafty to continue until a result?

I think it is because you perhaps use tablebases? I'm not sure though. :)

The Key Question Is how the hell can you lose against a lone King???

For 6 pieces or less on the board, the game has been solved. I suggest you use online tablebases to examine these positions:

I apologize for saying lose when I should have said draw. The question assumes I know little and you know much. I was hoping for a useful answer - not sarcasm.

So there is no setting to cause Crafty to play until there is a result?

It is not clear why Crafty, or any decent engine, should suddenly stop analysis in a normal position, or continuation of a game. To me, this sounds more like a SCID problem... or is it possible that the game contained repetitions, so that SCID thinks the game was already over, earlier?

Can you post the game as PGN, pointing to the move where the analysis stops? (See your SCID docs or F1 help to find how to get PGN from it; hopefully it supports copy & paste so you can simply paste it here.)

Of course I meant, Crafty or any other decent engine (like Crafty).

Forgive me, I thought you made a joke post.
