Hello All,
Is there any software that allows you to put game links inside other games? For example; You have a game open in chessbase. At some move you give a variation and cite a game. I would like to be able to link to that game. I have not heard of this being asked before and am surprised that nobody else has thought of this.
Regards
Tony

I don't recall that exact feature, but a SCID opening report from a given position lists that sort of data automatically.Tony Nichols wrote:Hello All,

Hi Dan,
Yes Chessbase does this too. I think it would be much easier to organize my study if I could open 1 game window and from there link to all relevant games from certain positions. The reason I would like to do this is because if you cite too many games or variations in 1 game window it becomes very difficult to navigate. But if I could hyperlink to another game window I could make each window as simple or complex as I liked. I could access my whole opening repertoire as white from 1 window. Does this sound useful to anybody else? I am not a programmer but have actually thought of trying to do it myself. It must be easy to do! With Chessbase you can insert audio, video, or a picture into the game. Why not another game?

It sounds like a very good idea to me.Tony Nichols wrote:Hi Dan,

I would recommend that the interface could do the following:
1. From the current board, do a right click on the board with the mouse
2. Menu choices arise, one of which is "find games with this position"
3. An option would be to order or filter these games such as:
A. Filter by Elo
B. Filter by Title
C. Filter by Date
D. Filter by Correspondence
etc. with combinations thereof.
e.g. Filter = "type=Correspondence" + title = "IM OR GM" + "Date >= 1/1/1960"
4. Click OK, and a list of game titles and results pops up. You should be able to scroll through these games for interesting variations.

Ok, If you think it's a good idea, maybe I'm not crazy
My main reason for such a feature would be to open a game titled say "White Repertoire". After 1d4 d5 2 c4 I could have 2...e6 as my mainline. As a variation I could have 2...c6. I could set 2...c6 as a hyper link so that it would trigger another board window to open with my analysis of that move. Just imagine trying to wade your way thru the queens gambit declined and the slav in one board window
Now imagine being able to have a sperate board window open whenever you like
Same goes for game citation. Instead of citing some moves of another game we could just make that game a hyper link. Then we could play thru the whole game if we liked. Maybe, I should write to Chessbase?

Hyperlinks to other games would also be nice, but I would like for the program to stick the variation into the game as a RAV with a citation.Tony Nichols wrote:Ok, If you think it's a good idea, maybe I'm not crazy![]()
