Gambit Tiger

Post by Marek Soszynski »

I'm interested in the ChessBase-native Gambit Tiger engines. I am not interested in the UCI versions.

Gambit Tiger 2.0 was bundled with which version of Chess Tiger?

Was there a Gambit Tiger 3 and, if so, which version of Chess Tiger was it bundled with?

I presume there was never a ChessBase-native Gambit Tiger after that.

Chess Tiger 15 is still for sale on the ChessBase website, but there's no mention of a bundled Gambit Tiger.

Chess Tiger 15 was a mix of Chess Tiger 14 and Gambit tiger 2,as far as I know, that´s why there is not GT 3

I remember when gambit Tiger first came out, it was so popular. I think Gambit Tiger in it's time was more famous for it's style of play than any engine ever.

Those outrageous sacrifices and those amazing wins, Gambit Tiger saw it coming way before the other engine did.

Someone went as far as calling it a new paradigm in chess engine, and than there was a whole 20 page fight over it.

Good time... :)

Chess Assistant 7 was bundled with Gambit Tiger 3.

Gambit Tiger 2 was bundled with Chess Tiger 14 by Chessbase.

Gambit Tiger "3" was a playing style (Gambit) within Chess Tiger 15 by Chessbase and Lokasoft/Chesspartner.

Gambit Tiger 3 was a separate (although identical with the previously mentioned) engine within Chess Assistant 7.

Thanks to Kaj and every one else for answering my questions.

It's a pity that Christophe Théron abandoned a separate Gambit module just when it had established a good name for itself. Note that the new Rybka will be issued with a separate, more speculative module.

Christophe always said that starting from ChessTiger2004, he simply included the Gambit module into the general module, with 4 "styles" to select:
normal
gambit
gambit agressive
gambit suicidal

So ChessTiger2004...2007 style gambit means and plays the same thing as would a separate Gambit module play.

For me that was the wrong decision. I don't want to fiddle with settings. I'd rather go to the drop-down list of all my engines and choose from there, especially as not all GUIs are reliable when saving parameters.

True,it's sometimes a nightmare to set and save the settings in some GUIs....
