That was quick, he only died yesterday.

Yes, it's a tragic loss for his family and the chess world.

Karen was my friend. He had a great sense of humour, and was very friendly, sociable, easy-going guy. And very modest, considering how popular chess is in Armenia. I hadn't seen him for a long time, and hoped to meet him soon in Dresden Olympiad.
Once we were playing chess in a student camp, and a girl came along with her camera and started to make photos. Karen took his head into his hands, and leaned into the board-made his famous over-concentrated look. As if he was in trouble. As if the game was real. I mean-he was like that-making every situation humorous.
I will never forget him.

It is possible that I have seen him two years ago in Warsaw. I participated in a small blitz tournament, one of a monthly series organized by the owner of a pub called "Barylka" (a barrel). These tournaments are rather strong, I think at least 2100+, but that time the owner invited the entire national representation of Azerbeijan, and they took the first 5 places. I finished with a 50% score (being already an overachievement) and since the number of rounds was rather high, I had a pleasure of being destroyed by one of their players.

I also remember them analyzing a game between the rounds - it seems that the game was always the same, some Giouco Pianissimo with d3, c3 and a wild kingside attack. It was an incredible fun to watch.

So rest in piece

I am very sorry - and if mods decide to remove my post, I have nothing against it.

On the team's feelings before this round eight match: I will not deny that we were very nervous. Regardless of where we meet, the enemy is the enemy. We all have feelings of hate towards them. But you must try to suppress those feelings and not let them interfere. Chess must be played with a sober head.
Wow, what a tool,(no more respect for Rajabodoof)..

Yes, this is really very very sad news. I was completely shocked when I read about his death. Rest in peace Karen, the chess world will miss you.
