While downloading the free last version of the Delfi engine at
http://www.msbsoftware.it/delfi/
I noticed what follows:
DELFI TRAINER
Delfi Trainer is a chess engine for Fritz, Shredder, Arena and Winboard. Its main feature is to emulate an amateur human player, in the range 1000..2300 ELO. The level is independent by the CPU speed. Also Delfi doesn't play instantly, you will have the opportunity to think during its time, just like against a human opponent.
Is there anyone who owns it and so he/she can answer the following questions:
A) What is your opinion of that engine?
B) Have you played against Delfi Trainer at your elo rating strength? If positive, have you found Delfi trainer a useful tool?
C) Have you noticed any main differences between Delfi's play and other main engines at certain elo settings..let's say elo 2.000 or 2.300?
D) Has anyone played any matches between Delfi trainer and other chess engines?
Thanks for your comments about this subject.

1) I dont own the engine, but my buddy Wael does, he claims that its well worth the money..
2) dont know
3) dont know..
4) I have seen results from Pavel Hase, and Wael, both seem to indicate that it is the same strength as the regular delfi, only difference being the Delfi T includes a 2.5 D GUI and it is compiled to be slightly faster.

Re: Delfi Trainer Engine
AFAIK as Tony says there has been no material distinction between the Trainer engine itself and the free Delfi. (The DT engine is not yet updated to reflect the latest 5.3 release). For me, Delfi (Trainer) is a favourite engine.A) What is your opinion of that engine?
Yes - after many games my rating against Delfi correlates almost exactly with my last known official rating and also playchess rating although neither are current. I have pretty much all the Chess GUI but for me the Delfi GUI is the easiest and most enjoyable to play against on screen. The Position Trainer (part of the DT package) has been very useful for practice on tactics and endgames particularly.B) Have you played against Delfi Trainer at your elo rating strength? If positive, have you found Delfi trainer a useful tool?
To date I have only played between 1200 - 1600 so can't comment on higher levels but within this range I have found it a nice and well balanced opponent to play against. Sure, it does sometime play moves that no equally rated human would be likely to play (eg an early king move now and again) but generally it seems very good in this area (better than CM)C) Have you noticed any main differences between Delfi's play and other main engines at certain elo settings..let's say elo 2.000 or 2.300?
Not me - the main reason for buying Delfi Trainer was to play against and for testing myself eg on tactical positions & endgames. For me, it has been excellent on both countsD) Has anyone played any matches between Delfi trainer and other chess engines?

Re: Delfi Trainer Engine
I own Delfi Trainer also. Under my Fritz 11 GUI Delfi can go as high as 2600. Also the engine was updated to the reflect the lastest 5.3 release. Dr. Fabio Cavicchio sent me a email with the lastest update. I use Delfi as training aid for its human like play at lower levels. I also like to use its GUI for Tactical and Endgame training.

This UCI Delphi engine will load into my F9 gui single core AMD machine but will not load into my AMD dual core F9 gui. Strange. Jaimes.

Thanks for the 'heads up', Ted! - my PC is currently kaput so I missed this, but Fabio has kindly sent the link throughAlso the engine was updated to the reflect the lastest 5.3 release. Dr. Fabio Cavicchio sent me a email with the lastest update.
I was thinking about the Trainer engine which is integrated into the Delfi Gui and Position Trainer which hasn't been updated. The next update for these Fabio says will include extra features and probably also Delfi 5.4 though unfortunately is unlikely to be this year
