Some said that Rybka's node count is not real or Rybka count it differently compared to other programs.
Should we treat Rybka's ply depth the same as other programs or is it different from other program just like its node count?
Is rybka ply depth display reliable?

You can add two to reported plydepths, that gives a better comparison to other programs, if you want to compare tactical accuracy or speed to plydepths between Rybka and other programs.
For instance Christophe Théron said, it is quite a while ago, that subtracting two from the plydepths of ChessTiger made searches comparable to Rybka 1.0 Beta, the programs then were finding tactical solutions at the same ply.
For Strelka clones the plydepth is I believe two plies more than in Rybka 1.0 Beta. For later versions of Rybka I think we can safely assume that

- The search has changed.
- Adding two to the reported plydepths is still more useful in comparing accuracy at least it should be possible to verify this directly.

Re: Is rybka ply depth display reliable?
Rybka has been confirmed to subtract 3 to depth, so ply 1 is actually ply 4.
You can check this by forcing Rybka to negative depths, and she'll go to up to depth -3 (playing weaker.)

Christophe! Very good! You were right from the start about that. And it is very good to see you, I hope you and your family are doing well, I am glad you have not completely forgotten us here or this silly endeavour called computerchess. But sometimes far more important things in life demand some attention too!tiger wrote:It was 3 plies.

Holding our breath for any news on underwater Tigers
