XyclOps v.1.2 WinBoard engine and Arena 1.99 beta 5-GUI

Post by Norbert Raimund Leisner »

Hello together,

when I want to embed the evalution version (not registered, valid for 10 days) into Arena 1.99 beta 5 (WinBoard-protocol) to start the engine,
each time i get the message : "error 55" - "error : corrupted security":

Norman was the opinion that a copy to another PC/System could cause
the troubles, but I have only a PC with one Internet-connection.

URL: http://www.xyclops.com/index.html to download the test-version
(commercial full version costs 29 Euros)

Who made similiar experiences with xyclOpsv.1.2?

Regards,
Norbert

Same problem here. I only analysed one move from the starting
position in console mode to see if it works correctly after I saw what
problems others had. This worked, but when I tried it the next day
I received error 55.
I mailed Norman yesterday describing the problem.

Stephan

I have the same problem. When xycl0ps was installed in Arena beta version too (after installing it in Arena 1.1), this security error window pop-up.

I didnt experience any problems in installing Xyclops. I entered it in a tournament and went to sleep. By that time I went to sleep it had scored 12.5 out of 15 against the strongest opponents possible, I woke up and the tournament was finished. I knew something was weird, I checked the pgn, and every game after the 15th game was marked as a human vs human game in arena. I have had similar problems with Arena before, but I always caught it very early. I would like to know if someone knows a fix to that problem, and why it happens only once in a while.

Hi Norbert, Stephan, and Evgenii,

thanks much for downloading xyclOps 1.2 eval, and giving it a try.

as you probably know, in an effort to thwart software piracy and the illegal copying and distribution of xyclOps 1.2, the evaluation version contains security code that prevents it from running on more than 1 system.

unfortunately, i have indeed had some reports of users getting the error 55 corrupted security message when in fact they didn't move or copy the software to a different computer, and i do apologize for the error. i haven't got an explanation for this behavior at this time, but i will offer this:

i'm working vigorously on version 1.3 (and have been for some time). due to many many requests, I am strongly considering adding UCI support so that users can easily run xyclOps with some of the fine UCI GUIs that are available today (i.e. chessbase, shredder, etc.).

when version 1.3 is well-tested and ready, as a thank-you to everyone who downloaded and evaluated the software, i am intending a free release of version 1.2, without copy protection. anyone who has registered xyclOps 1.2 by that time, will of course receive 1.3 for free.

sincerely,
norm

Norman sent me another version of xyclOps 1.2 immediately
after he received my mail and this resolved the issue at least
partially and I was able to play 10 test games vs. DeepSjeng 3.0.
(It seems that a problem in what to count as a new session
remained in the evaluation version, because it didn't start
anymore after game ten)

I can say it is indeed very strong and probably in the region
of the above mentioned DeepSjeng version, at least that's my
first guess after mere 10 games at 40/8 in WB.

Here it played 15 games as I mentioned in the previous post, I guess there is a limitation in the number of games as well..After that it started giving error 55..
