A free chess toolbar....

Post by Dr.Wael Deeb »

CXR has developed a chess toolbar that works with Internet Explorer and
FireFox. It is virus-free and contains no spyware. The tool bar is
loaded with cool features including a chess news ticker, an RSS feed
with chess puzzles and articles, a chess chat room, a growing list of
chess links, and tons more. Best of all, it's FREE. You can download
the toolbar from www.cxrchess. com by clicking on "Free Chess Toolbar".

I am sure it was scanned for viruses.....however risk ware , spyware adware. information gathering programs with a privacy policy of interesting nature etc. may not be considered viruses by some definitions. Indeed --if hackers can by pass corporate security I am sure they can come up with interesting surprises every where. I am not 100% sure the tool bar is at fault ....yet. However the fact that these isuues crept up upon installation and subsequent system restore process in conjunction with no un install program IMHO is somewhat ---synchronistic and perhaps suspicious behavior. I blame myself for this as I did NOT scope the program thoroughly prior to installation  . I am sure you did your best prior to posting the link. I reiterate I am not 100% sure the tool bar is at fault. It is on the surface a kewl thing.

I am on sbcglobal.net which in turn is a part of yahoo.com. When subscribing you get yahoo anti virus, but along with that I had Norton and McAfee running on my system.
I stupidly opened an email from a person that I did not know and immediately was hit with a trogan horse and 8 seperate viruses and none of my 'protection' programs either saw it or prevented it. It correpted my favorite laptop so bad as to make it totally useless. Even the factor extra recovery disks won't work.
From now on no more strange emails or opening anythng that even gives a hint of viruses.

On my computer, these 2 have never accepted to walk hand-in-hand, no matter which one I installed first.
It was always, "I refuse to be installed till you uninstall my enemy/rival".
