Re: Cylone 1.0 beta now available
many thx Gerold!
an excerpt from the readme file:
"It is more configurable than ever with 30 new GUI configuration options making it easier to test and tune material, evaluation, positional, and search parameters.
The carefull and deliberate testing of the almost endless number of specific combinations utilizing these weights and parameters could ultimately lead to well-known configurations that are optimal in each enviroment and circumstance. There is no doubt that tweaking these items can significantly increase or decrease overall playing strength. The addition of so many configurable options to cyclone is meant to facilitate testing by users. To that end, a conscious effort will be made to add more and more of these user-configurable options to all future versions of cyclone. Hopefully many users will then document and share info on known optimal configurations, thereby increasing the engines overall effectiveness."
I released the engine today with all options 'on' by default, but this config has received little testing. Alternately, Toga14beta5c was released with extended history pruning and king safety 'off' by default. In one of the toga readme.txt files, Thomas recommend turning extended history pruning on and changing history threshold from 70 to 75 for blitz games.
Also: rebel reduction (and its associated parameters -rebel value and rebel margin) has received very little testing.
Hope this helps.
