Arena 1.1 - Problem after restart during tournament

Post by plattyaj »

I have a problem that I believe is in Arena (1.1) but I'm wondering if others have seen it too.

I set up a tournament (just Schola versus some other engine), with default options for Arena restart (restart after 6 games). The first six games go well. Then, on restart, it sometimes doesn't get any input back from Schola. Looking at the Arena debug it shows nothing. Looking at the Schola debug it shows loads of stuff. Obviously Schola then always loses on time.

I'm going to try to see if changing to not restart works OK (I suspect that that option is there for a good reason ;) !).

I have had a similiar problem and was told that I had to set up a command to completely end and then restart to make it work. Although I know how to do this in windows I have never really found how to do it in Arena.

I dont think it's a problem with Arena, Schola is having similar problems under winboard in WBEC test tournaments.

If you could send log files that would be great. The only problems reported outside had to do with ponder. Some of those looked a little bit like the problem with Arena restart except that they would have happened a few moves in. I've fixed all the ponder ones I've found in 1.0.2 on my website.

With the Arena problem it just doesn't get any of the initialization output.

I'll probably write a little intercept program and stick it in the middle and see what that says.

Thanks,

Andy.
