Can I continue to post here if I save my $150 Rybka money and use it to buy Deep Fritz 11?

I wasnt sure if I could control myself, but so far I have not purchased Rybka 3. I do not have the energy it takes to build an advanced book to be at the top of the chess game servers.

I really like Zappa Mexico II, Deep Sjeng 3.0, Tiger, Deep Shredder 11, Crafty, Deep Hiarcs Paderborn etc...
In test positions I have not seen much improvement in Rybka to solve.
It seems that if you are going to play at Chessbase it is important to own, but I see maybe they are going to require Rybka to be in own room.
I am thankfull to all of these programmers for their efforts.

I have been disappointed in the pre release Rybka hype and posts by the sales team.

Pal, you are not alone. I will NOT purchase Rybka, either. I had the hope that its new Gui could give to me (a simple chess fan without ANY ambition to improve my game studying now, at my 59 years of age, what I did not study when I was 19) something else than more tools for the "serious" chess player.
Well, I am not a serious chess player. In fact I am not serious in nothing. I deteste the sheer idea of engaging my full life in the sole prosecution of this or that activitry. I am not an specialist. My soul appertain to older, happier times, the refined age when it was supposed that a gentleman could probe his hands in poetry, duelling, chess, war, reading and memories, but never be a professional sowrdman, chess player or dedicated writer.
Chess is, for me, fun. So what I want now is the best, prettier, funniest gui imaginable and that is not the case with this new product.
I am still waiting for that blue prince that will supply that to me.
In the meantime, I am happy with Chessbase Fritz 11. Love his comments and sarcasms.

My best

Times have changed my friend
computer chess on the Internet now ..is all about chess server engine Elo ratings and ratings achieved by the numerous testing groups
when we both started posting on the net over a decade ago there was more talk about chess in general ,dedicated computers,Gui features in pc engines and very little interest in playing engine v engine for Elo ratings on chess servers or testing groups playing tens of 1000's of games to see which program is the strongest

there will be those that will buy the new R3 in all of its incarnations and rush to some Internet server with a fictitious nickname to claim bragging rights

we must realize this change is upon us and we must leave the hobby from an Internet posting perspective
we must pass the baton to the new generation of younger enthusiasts and we must walk away slowly and quietly into the night

i propose that all computer chess enthusiasts above the age of 45 be banned from now on from all Internet sites and servers (unless they play as humans)

Steve, i am very interested in Rybka 3 and the likes, i.e. which programs are stronger and by how much. I have to be as a tester. But i also have a lot of interest in the stand-alones and do really miss "Collectors' Corner" that used to be here. IMO, there is plenty of room for both. In the end, computer chess is not only just about elos.

thanks for the kind words George
nice to know that at least you read those old Collector's Corner posts
of course i was joking about the 45+ ban
we could all do with a bit more relaxed atmosphere here and not everyone so serious all the time i think

Best Regards

Oh Thanks George. Now you just take your time and consider all the info. I know you have authority here George and I will respect your final decision. Please show some mercy George because I enjoy reading here and all the test positions.
George, one last request...could you give me a two week notice instead of just blocking me without notice?

Maybe our timer is past, Steve, but still we can think how much better it is or it was. I consider it is needed an special degree of specialized idiocy to do what you described so well, that rush to servers, those infinite tournaments between engines, those debates about how it was programmer X got a PV that is shorter than it should, etc, etc
Isn't lot more wise to sit down in peace in a comfortable chair and play a game against a dedicated computer or even -yes, even that- with an engine, provided this last one has a superb, nice GUI?
We think hard, we sip coffee, we are in the middle of a sphere of silence, we exercize our brain, we muse a little bit of past times, we drink another coffee or perhaps something stronger and in that manner time goes softly...
This is not going to the darkness of nighj, Steve, but staying in the full shine of sunny wisdom and felicity.
