The current version is 5.2H..I predict that by the time it gets to 5.5, it will become the strongest non-rybka freeware engine.

Tony, the problem is unless i am missing something- as of late he never tells us what we are getting by updating, i.e. what has been fixed or added or whatever. IOW, why i would want to update and what i am gaining. No knock on Lance- he has been good to us- but i have to be honest i just hate it when an author does that and leaves us wondering.

Best,
Tony Thomas

Not true George, he has fixed that problem, I applaud him for that decision. Here is a quote from the website..Just click on the what's new link, it tells us about the most recent change, or so its supposed to do. I am not sure if the info is outdated though.

Thinker Chess Engine version 5.2H
Fixed the issue with the king safety evaluation in the 64-bit builds.
Fixed the extension/reduction of en-passant captures.
Added splitting of interior nodes in parallel search.

I gave up trying to play 128 games with Thinker, though. By the time I'm almost done a new Thinker pops up and I have to begin from scratch.

Hopefully once Lance is done with the bugs he'll start taking user requests ;)

I guess a solution would be to test the last 5.1 version and only test the last 5.2 version when a 5.3 version comes out (unless version numbers are arbitrary.)

So, waiting for a new thinker, ie 5.2i, for a day would be safer, then?
