After some delay, I finally decided to release version 4.3.14k of WinBoard/xboard. Note that this release does include an xboard version, and a fully reconstituted source tree, which can be used to build both WinBoard and xboard in the same way as this was done in version 4.2.7. The included xboard still lags behind in development compared to WinBoard, though: we just restored compatibility between the xboard-specific and common code-bases of the latest WinBoard release, supplying some of the command-line options that would work without further code changes.
The new home page for WinBoard/xboard is at the Winboard forum, from which the unified sources, as well as Windows and Unix executable packages can be downloaded. You can find much additional information there as well:
One more, to show the auxilary windows without broadening the forum discussion (which seems to want a ridiculously large margin to the right of an image).
Game in progress, with open move-history, evaluation-graph and engine-output windows

_No one can hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward….
I must point out that most of the fancy looks is due to Allessandro Scotti, not to me. I started my work on WinBoard from his WinBoard_x sources. The improvements I made mainly concern the back-end (apart from the displaying of crazyhouse holdings and the adjustable board format and built-in bitmaps for extra piece types).
What I did was build in castling- and e.p. awareness, various adjudication and legality-testing options in engine-engine games, fixed the Chess960 code, improved draw-claiming and draw-offer handling, improved robustness against crashing engines, time-odds games, node-count-based time controls. Nothing that would show up on a picture, except for the variants.
