SSDF are also testing Pocket PC programs and PF3(Hiarcs) has not been added to the list you quote yet.

Yes it looks like Pocket Fritz 3 will top the list - until Pocket Rybka is released that is! :P

I wonder how easy pocket Rybka will be to make? The .exe of R3 is huge how do you make it fit in a PPC and keep the playing strength!? R3 is also a memory hogger.

Vas could use Strelka, :-), Strelka has a slight executable which I think does not reach 200 kb.

More seriously, I think that in R3 with 64 MB hash in reality the program has already occupies more than 150 MB, so as you say all that memory
(150-64) is perhaps a problem to fit it into the PPC.

I just received my copy of PPC Fritz 3 and I must say it is tons of fun. I have recentely switched to an HTC mobile phone and have loaded it there. It is quite a functional little piece of software giving a very good game at 5 seconds a move ... plus it has a very nice interface with relatively good database functions. A PPC Rybka should be coming soon and Vas is hard at work with it. For sure it will be a totally different executable, but Rybka is remarkably efficient and powerful on weak hardware.

do you have evidence of this? A rybka product was promised over a year ago for this type of hardware and was not released. I wonder why?

this was posted in January 2007 by Vas:
We're going to port to all of the mobile devices. PocketPC should be ready in February. Palm and Symbian might slip into March, although I'll do my best. Immediately after the Rybka 2.3 release, I will give you a more precise schedule.

Generally, porting is not hard. It's already done for PocketPC (and also for Ruud's machine). I just need to co-ordinate with Convekta.

There already exists a StrongArm version of Rybka 2.2 (available in the Resurrection/Revelation machinbes of Ruud Martin)

http://www.phoenixcs.nl/

but it seems, that Rybka needs fast hardware; on my Resurrection I (200 MHz StrongArm) it performed a little below my expectations in a PDA tournament:

So i am not sure, that Pocket Rybka 3 would outperform PF3...
