In my research into 'Fallible Agent Modelling', initially using chess-players' decisions, I am using SHREDDER's analysis of the thousands of chess positions involved.
Reason: it's a top engine, available on Windows and Linux, but more ot the point, Stefan has always been willing, helpful, friendly, capable and professional on the occasions we have interacted.

Re: SHREDDER - engine of choice
Shredder is certainly strong and capable. It does some kind of heavy pruning so reaches large depths rapidly (if the node counts are accurate).
One thing I've noticed though is that it has a tendency to produce large scores for positional factors. So often Rybka will evaluate at +1 or so and Shredder will be +2, for example. When the eval is accurate this is not a problem but I think in some cases the eval is somewhat speculative and may not be borne out by deeper search.

Correct,I've been having the same opinion over the years watching Shredder when playing the other engines....jdart wrote:Shredder is certainly strong and capable. It does some kind of heavy pruning so reaches large depths rapidly (if the node counts are accurate).
