DESERVING A CHANCE- Beginning NOW!

Post by geots »

DESERVING A CHANCE

Fritz 11 GUI
Intel Dual Core
Single Processor- 3.2ghz
128mb hash
3 & 4 man egtb
Perfect 12.32.ctg book (w/ 12 move limit)
40 moves in 20 minutes repeating
All Engines = 32 bit
Ponder & Learning = OFF
RR = 4 Cycles
(180 total games)
Run by George Speight

Entrants:

Chaturanga 2.3.4
Clueless 1.4
ECE 0.3
Marvin 1.3.0
Micro-Max 4.8
Rival 1.18
Smash 1.0.3
Surprise 4.3b13
Warrior 1.0.3
Yoda 2.09

I may not be overrun with requests for these game PGNs- certainly no Rybka, Fritz or Shredder in this one. I have no idea the interest this tournament will generate- but i do know one thing. No one alive has worked any harder than these 10 authors to make their programs excel- and they damn well deserve the chance for them to be noticed and appreciated.

On another note, you will see i have switched from 40/40 adapted w/crafty benchmark to a straight 40 moves in 20 minutes repeating. Will these results be better because of this change: NO Will these results be worse because of this change: NO The results will simply "be what they will be". Hope you enjoy.

PS: I have tried to pick the entrants to make this tournament as competitive as possible, and to give each engine as fair a chance as possible.

Hi George,

I look forward to following this tournament.
Be aware that the Yoda author has asked Leo (from memory) to revert to the previous version of Yoda because 2.09 is "bugged".

Cheers, Graham.

In the above thread, i.e. in this tournament- Yoda 2.09 is being replaced by Lime 66. As i do not have the inclination to search the world for a previous Yoda version- nor do i have the inclination to ask anyone for it. I had no clue there was a problem with the current Yoda version. Thank you, Graham, for your kindness.

Not a problem. Happy to help. 8-)
If I had the previous version of Yoda, I'd have emailed it to you, but unfortunately I'm at work.

Regards, Graham.

To anyone interested, I am going to stick with Lime 66 as a replacement for Yoda 2.09. For one reason, i have changed to Lime, and don't have the urge to change back. Possibly down the line i would run into some big problems with Yoda 2.09- but i have put it thru everything i can- and i absolutely cannot get it to make a mistake. I would, tongue-in-cheek, say that maybe some others werent as good at loading it as i was. As i did have to go back and make some changes to get it to work right after originally loading it. But then i would only get a barrage of abuse from people taking me seriously- so please, it was tongue-in-cheek. (Tho it does seem to perform fine on my end) Tho maybe better to be safe than sorry or some crap to that effect.
Who knows.
