Milov on the Rybka match

"...However, I`m convinced that the program is not unbeatable (when talking about playing normal chess without handicap). In the match we played now the question basically was whether I can convert my material advantage or not and in a way it became a little boring towards the end. I personally would be interested to play a match against this program where the only handicap I`m asking for is that I get White in all games. I`m confident that with the right preparation I`ll be able to represent the human side as well as I did in this match."

Well then Game On! I would love to see a full 10 game match mano a mano. Much better than watching a handicap match. Having said that Milov showed some incredible technique in some of those games. His win of the game where he ended up in an opposite bishop endgame one pawn up was a truly masterful display of what a top GM is capable of and how far engines still have to reach the level of humans in some parts of the game. I think there should still be a handicap but that the handicap should be either that the human has white every game and maybe also a truncated book or no book. This will allow normal chess to be played and no excuses for Rybka.

agreed
however it should be remembered that in the two normal games GM Milov managed to eek out only one draw in two games and he had White both times
it is in the GM's interest to make bold statements like this in order for him to remain in the spot light so to speak and get another match
however i think we can take nothing from his performance in the odds games and infer anything about his performance in the normal chess games
for his perfomance in normal games..we can only say he scored .5-1.5

GM Benjamin scored 2 draws and 8 loses in his no odds and White every game match
GM Morovich scored 1 draw and 1 loss in the Chilean match also with no odds ..colors reversed

if GM Milov could score even 30% in a ten game match i think it would be a ....
Miracle Regards

lkaufman has just suggested a new idea, dynamic handicap:

The GM starts playing as white a normal game, if he wins he gets to play black against the engine, but if he loses, some kind of handicap is imposed, such as a time handicap in where he gets more time against the engine. If he wins this one the handicap gets removed, if he loses the handicap gets bigger, such as adding a 3 move book to the time handicap. And so on.

Getting a draw means repeating the last handicap, so, if the GM wants a normal match, all he needs to do is draw all games.

I like very much the idea.

That's the *Key* play for the draw.
