Question about versions of Deep Fritz

Post by kgburcham »

I have a version of Deep Fritz.
On the Chessbase box it says "Deep Fritz is based on an improved Fritz 6 engine". On the CD it says copyright 2001.
I cannot find a number associated with this version such as Deep Fritz 6 etc.

What is the history of Deep Fritz versions?
Were there 6 versions of Fritz before a Deep version was made?
Do I have the first Deep Version?
If yes, has there been a release of 6 thru 10 Deep Fritz versions?

thanks

I am not a chess software expert or collector like many on this forum but in my searching I come up with the following. The below should be correct but may or may not include all publically available deep versions - however as far as I can tell the below list is currently complete.

+ Deep Fritz 10
+ Deep Fritz 8
+ Fritz in Bahrain - Kramnik vs Fritz match - Deep Fritz 7 engine
+ Deep Fritz 7
+ Deep Fritz - engine based on Fritz 6

Below is a screenshot of a Chessbase.com page from a February 24, 2001 web archive listing. If your packaging looks like the greenish pic shown in the screenshot then you have it. If not, then you still might have it.

Hi there,

You seem to have the original Deep Fritz engine, and yes, based on Fritz 6.

Hey, a short while ago i offered to buy a second hand copy.
I might also want to do the exchange against another MP engine of mine.
Deep Fritz is a must for my collection, so please, please...;-)

Interested?

Then send me a mail.

Best regards.
