Will an Anand win unify the chess championships?

Post by S.Taylor »

It would be very good news if atleast, human chess will be tidied up, and will be the most effective and interesting system, which I think should mean similar to the old system.
I havn't been reading up on it the past few years, but if it is still two rival federations, it would be very nice if it was put back into one, and that one should not be the one which is most interested in non-chess interests.

It's enough that computer chess confuses us. It's time to atleast consolidate exactly what human chess is, and keep it alive and exciting as much as possible.

Anand is already the undisputed world champion. Kramnik's website www.kramnik.con is titled "Vladimir Kramnik: World Chess Champion 2000-2007". The unification took part in Elista 2006 where Kramnik, 14th World Champion (successor of Steinitz), defeated FIDE's champion Topalov. But in Mexico 2007 Anand won the world championship tournament. Kramnik had agreed to put his title on this tournament with the privilege to get a rematch with the World Champion if he didn't win. This match in Bonn 2008 is the rematch.

So Kramnik put some of his prestige at risk for the general good of unification?

(The world championship tournament is not FIDE?)
