Dirty in ACCA

Post by Andres Valverde »

Hi there,

As everybody did..here is my little report,

Dirty 0.99z played using the account Deltomatex, fact that most of the opponents seems not to know :-). I promise I did read the participant list .

The short number of participants invited to think in some games vs the monsters as it actually happened.

The best momment for me was the game ZCT-Rybka. An incredible simple and drawish ending was won by Rybka in great Capablanca style. Anyways very well done by ZCT. I think Rybka can win everybody even a K vs K ending it it were legal !

Dirty games :

1. Rybka wins : The impressive strength of the top engine won from the very beginning. One point: Rybka only kibitzed one move in PV. Some participants claimed and I think they had some reasons to do so. They hurted us watching its thoughts meanwhile all of us were being defeated.

2. Slobo loses : The TDs put this bot to complete the list. Nothing to say

3. Telepath loses : A bad opening line or a strange piece sac in book that both engines didn't understood put Telepath in a lost position too early.

4. Crafty wins : Dirty mounted a promising attack but it didnt found the correct way to go on. Crafty oversearched Dirty (18Mnps vs 400Knps) and won but certainly I am not impressed with its play.

5. Arasan draws : Arasan got a good position after opening, but it had some doubts and with the help of its centralized King Dirty managed to get a valuable half point.

6. ChessThinker wins : Another monster hiding the PV ( or at least i can't understand it at all). Sincerely...I didnt watch the entire game as it was too late for me at Sunday night.

My sincere thanks to the organizers, all ran just OK. Pity the short number of participants but ... maybe next year.

We apparently watched two different games... Crafty was black, played h6 and g5 and was the one attacking. By move 30 we were at -2.5 (good for black) and the game was over. Crafty announced mate at move 40... So I don't see this "promising attack" at all in that game for white. White didn't do anything except get strangled pretty quickly.

Indeed, that was a pretty cool game. You can imagine how I felt being a pawn up for almost ten moves, being even in material at move 40... shame ZCT didn't hold on, but it put up a good fight...

I watched ZCT games closely and I think that the opening book was good to say the least :)

Indeed. I'm sure you recognized it. ;) It was kind of cool being in book longer than Rybka...

Thanks for the book Dr. 8-)

You welcome buddy :D
For the next MP release of ZCT  ,I am providing an updating version of the opening book which will give it even more advantage in front of the other engines....

Sorry about the delay. I was waiting for the PGN file (Thx Charles). My comment was based in my first impression in the game and now I am sure it is not incorrect.

And yes, we watched the same game. Crafty played a6 at move #6 (opening move) and g5 at move #19. It was not an attacking move as you suggest, but more likely a defending one, because the mate thread at g7. I still think it is a positionally weak move, because Black king side gets weak and White gets some compensation for the strong black c passer. Actually, g5 is a tactical move, because if white doesnt play carefully Rook at g4 is in danger of being trapped (as it happened later), but it is not what i would call an "attacking move" at all. I thought in the game that both g6 or f5 were better moves and this is what i get in my analysis now.

My "promising attack" statement didn't mean that white position was better or won, but 19.Rg4 was a suitable way to balance the c black passer advantage. I am referring at this position after move 19.Rg4 :

[d] r1r3k1/pb2qpp1/1n2p2p/1P6/2p3R1/2Q1PN2/P3BPPP/R5K1 b - - 3 19

Here Crafty 19..g5, and Dirty replied 20.Ne5 (after changing its mind from h4) what was a bad move. Later it was completely "strangled" as you say. After 20.h4 the game would has been at least even. For example here is a Rybka analysis that shows 0 score only after 8:09 '
