How do you develop strategy and aggression?

Post by stwils »

I spend most of my time in games trying to stay out of harm's way. I want to have a plan and go forward, but it seems there are so many "others" (ie chessmen) out there, ready to pounce on me, that I can't seem to find a way to go forward.

I have ordered Seirawan's Winning Chess Strategy. And now I have Fritz 10. What else do I need to bolster me into planning moves and going forward with a bit of confidence?

I saw on Amazon a software called Strategy 2.0 put out by Convekta. Do any of you have this and if so, would this help?

Chess is such a wonderful game. And I know I am impatient with myself as I haven't been playing that long. But I want to move forward and start winning some games!

I am working on tactics, but I need to learn how to implemant a plan of action.

My plan of action is reduced to this: what kind of beer I will sip after my defeat to refresh my soul.

Jokes asides,. there are not recipes for that. There are not general, magnificent plans to cover all the game. And you will not get results piling software and books, one after the other. They will nos instile its wisdom inside your.-
Just concentrate in any isolated book or software on tactics.
Chess is almost 99% tactics. You win or lose on tactics.
General plan or strategy reduces to this: being the position what it is, which are the best next 3-5 moves to get something, material or a better position?
Plans are little plans. Once you get there, then think in another little plan.
But before, tactics, tactics.
Great russian player Tolush used to say:
" I look first how to sacrifice the Queeen; if I find nothing, then and only then I begin to look for more quiescent moves"
I am sure you got the point...

Play a lot of blitz with stonger players then play weaker players. Read books and determine where mistakes were made. Repeat described process untill you die all alone. Then explain to God just why on earth the pinnacle of the existence he gifted you with was but to play this stupid, pathetic, putrid little game to the detriment and total neglect of your personal hygiene, family and world peace. Look on the bright side.... The originator of this maniacal passion -Satan  plays chess --maybe you will then beat him someday. You will have plenty of time to try at any rate. Not that it will matter. :( :( :( Please excuse me --I just lost my last $20.00 in a game against my idiot sniveling obnoxius little brother . Pardon me as I give myself a 'time out'. ##*$(p)_+&$^@@$^&))_+#$%^(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about playing with the devil, but I well remember Ingmar Bergman's film, Seventh Seal, in which the Knight plays chess with Death.

Wonderful film. Death really looks spooky in a black cloak and hood as they sit on the beach playing chess for the knight's life.

I went to chess cafe's site, but somehow the novice nook that you were referring to is not so readily identifiable. I like Dan H. but which of his columns are you talking about?

Can you say more?

Hi,

Possibly shocking but there is an advice drom many GMs including Petrosian,Tal

Get your favourite book and try to follow without a board.

Anand is known for reading chess magazines anyplace without board.

The GMs are trained to work with their brains.

Ivanchuk is known to play without looking the board at critical positions.

It is hard at the beginning, but needs only training.

Both Tactics and Strategy will benefit from this
