I sort of forgot about the Sjeng WC2008 update until now
Shredder 11 has held number 2 position on the FRC list since its release. I have now tested Deep Sjeng WC2008 x64 1CPU, and as I saw the results unfolding, I knew this was something special. Sure enough, it is a gain of approx +35 ELO over Deep Sjeng 3.0 64-bit 1CPU - a stunning performance - and it has stormed into second place on the pure list, 9 ELO clear of Shredder 11 with a 75% BayesELO LOS (likelihood of superiority) calculation. Congratulations to Gian-Carlo Pascutto
Shredder 11 however still remains the toughest opponent for Rybka. Shredder 11 scores 28% against Rybka, but Deep Sjeng WC2008 x64 1CPU managed just 20%
I hope many authors start implementing FRC. I heard TwistedLogic is going to be FRC. The author said he had to choose between MP or FRC. If you were in his shoe, Which one would you go for?!

In his shoes - SMP
But I prefer FRC, as long as it is Shredder UCI FRC standard and not Arena. But his engine is UCI (I think) so if he does implement it, it is likely to be Shredder format
I know opening books are a skill in their own right, some very talented people out there, but I just think that they ruin chess, which is why I like FRC. Of course, to some people, FRC is not chess at all

This time you said it Ray
_No one can hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward….

Would the fact that FRC removes some of the book knowledge from the play, would this score then be more indicative of the true quality of the engine? Or does FRC favor more tactical (or postitional) engines and that is one reason for the higher score for Sjeng in this variation?

It could also mean that DJ Opening book is not as good as shredder 11, or, Naum 3.1, since it is NOT scoring as high as these programs in standard chess.

Got it
Are not the opening books standarized in order to compare the engines?

Well Ray's original post was made in November of last year.
You are quite right, the second place does not last long, but Rybka has been on first place on all the rating lists for at least 3 years and possibly Naum will stay on second for a long time too
PS: If Thinker becomes FRC it might compete for second place very soon, at the pace that is advancing.
