Where can I find bechmarcks for single processor ?

Post by pichy »

I'm going to order the latest Intel core i7, but I am not sure if that is the current fastest single processor available. Where can I find bechmarcks for the fastest single processor ?

I don't think Core i7 comes in anything less than 4 cores ... but obviously you can run a single core engine on it.

I found this information about intel core i7 benchmark and being the first single processor to reach this amazing speed on the second paragraph

And on this Article on the fourth paragraph:

Ah ok, I thought you meant a single core processor as in 1 core in one processor. Nehalem starts off with 4 cores ... and could quickly ram up to 6 and even 8 cores.

To be more specific, Intel Core i7 can eventually hit eight native cores on a single CPU ( Central Processing Unit ), or 16 processing streams with Hyperthreading.

Here check the paragraph Four cores, sometimes eight:

I'm pretty sure it's the fastest available at the moment. But requiring DDR3 ram makes it a bit pricey at the moment.

Unfortunately for chess it seems to not work (at least not for Rybka)... or it needs additional code to make it work. On the Rybka forum several people have posted that leaving HT on reduces performance for Rybka by quite a bit. Even so the performance per Ghz is quite a bit better than Core 2, anywhere from 25% to 40% better. So actually a Quadcore Core i7 would get very close to the performance of an 8 core system.
