test position

Post by jdart »

from an offline test game:

[d] r1r3k1/1Q1n2pp/p3pp2/3p4/3P1B2/q1pBPN1P/5PP1/2R3K1 w - -

bm is Qxd7 (much better than e4, which is typically the choice at lower depths).

Commercials have little trouble with this (Rybka 3 solves it at depth 15, 86 seconds, on my older dual). Arasan can find it, but not at all rapidly.

1. Qxd7 {(0:00.03) 6285kN}{[%eval 131,13,HIARCS 12.1 MP]} *
Only 3 sec. for HIARCS on Quad

Takes Crafty just under a minute on my 2ghz laptop:

As far as Rybka's depth 15 goes, that could be an issue with how reductions affect this, or it could be a phony depth just as easily... No real way to know. Crafty finds it at depth 17 as you can see, which is a real depth.

My primitive engine takes a long time (~2.6 hours) to find Qxd7 in an AMD 2.4 Ghz with a sub-optimal 32-bits compile (1 CPU), in 14 plies.
I do not think there is anything weird about finding the solution at 15 plies in this case.

depth 14-15 is not unusual if it takes forever to get there, but if you quickly hit 20 plies, then finding it at 15 is unusual.
