On-line engine blitz tourney!

Post by hgm »

I already posted this in the general section, but so far with very few reactions, so I now post it in the other sections as well, in the hope it attracts more attention there.

Some of us (Tord, Pedro, Miguel and I) would like to play in a blitz tourney (e.g. 5+1 games) that I could organize. If this works satisfactory, we could make it a monthly event. (Or we could alternate 5-min and 10-min tourneys, or even do bullet some times.)

Is there any interest amongst engine testers to participate in the first (trial) edition of this, with your favorite engine? Only thing you need is a computer with an internet conection, and an engine! I will provide the server, and accounts on it for all participants. The four of us is a bit few to make an interesting tourney, even if we would all show up with 2 engines...

The date and time are still negociable; I was thinking on the first Saturday of the month (i.e. Feb 6), 3 pm EST, so that it is 9 pm in Europe and noon in California.

I wouldn't mind operating an engine to help bring up a variety of opponents.

My current version right now is under tuning and I may not be available in the weekends but I'm willing to let someone operate my latest stable version to participate in this tournament. Just send me a pm.

Here's a great tournament where the latest version of Twisted Logic participates:

http://www.sedatchess.com/scct.html

Most of the opponents there are SMP using 4 cores and Twisted is running on 1 core only.

Wow, That's quite an achievement, Congrats. Finally surpassed ChessTiger, Spike, Ktulu, Smarthink. I'm sure that once the MP support is implemented, no doubt it would gain another 100 elos and that would put the engine into the league of Deep Sjeng, Glaurung etc.

I'd be willing to operate for TwistedLogic.

Swami

Yes, we certainly have enough participants now for a meaningful tourney, and there were nott too much complaints about the proposed time.

So the tourney will definitely take place, and I will make the final announcement in a separate thread. note I did make a typo in the proposed data: Saturday is Feb 7, not Feb 6. So the tourney will be on Feb 7.

Not the final announcement of the blitz tourney in the Programming section:

Further communications on this will take place in that thread.
