a question about programs for teaching chess

Post by Uri Blass »

I wonder what are the free program to teach chess and if there are programs to teach chess with source code.

I wonder if there is a program to teach beginners about the squares of the board.

one of the first task that chess players need to learn is to write the moves and they need to detect the squares and I wonder if there is a program that teach beginners to detect the squares fast.

I have no problem with it but I know that at least one tournament player who does not remember the squares and simply count files and ranks in order to write his moves and of course he could be stronger player in case that he could save time and remember the squares(he is not a beginner so I am sure that beginners may be also slow in detecting the squares).

The idea is that the program shows a chess board without pieces to the user and the program also shows the user notation of some random square (like d4) and the user needs to click as fast as possible at d4 and this process repeats and the user can see his(her) average time.

Good idea Uri - i have not seen a free program but chessmaster gm does what you describe.

It would be easy for someone to code a program to do square detection :)
