SteveB Question about Phantom Force

Post by mephisto »

Hi Steve
Is there any mechanical difference between the old Excalibur Mirage and the newish Phantom Force.
Also, is the Phantom really that loud with it's crunching and grinding that I hear when I play those YouTube videos?
Wouldn't a little bit of lubrication help?
RN regards
Bryan

Hi Sir Bryan

well the piece movement operates under the same principal of Magnet's under the playing surface
i find that the movement is very smooth
one noticeable difference is in the housing
rather then all plastic it has a rubberized housing which makes it feel a bit more sturdy
and for reliability..so far not one problem with it
the Mirages were notorious for mechanical defects soon after they hit the market
as to the noise..i don't think it really sounds any louder then any of the other Robots but perhaps i am not such a good judge
i am not so picky when it comes to newly released chess computers
i am perhaps one of the only collectors on Earth that does NOT object to the graphics on the Novag Star Sapphire
my view is one more of gratitude that the few remaining companies are still releasing these gems so i tend not to complain so much
anyway.. as to your last question

Sounds like a question my Wife always asks Regards
