Could preparing too hard for Chess960 make you weaker at....

I found out that GM Hikaru Nakamura is preparing very hard for the Chess960 World Championship at Mainz from friends that knows him very well. Could it be that preparing for chess960 which is very wild made him weaker at normal chess :?:

At GM level, any "distraction" from standard chess has consequences.
At my level, there's no difference.

But wait ... GM = "Gemuh Matthias" :wink:
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.
