I find it hard to believe that nobody sponsored a match between Computer versus human for this 19th Computer Shogi Championship in Japan ( One of the richest Nation in the World )

I think they could find a sponsor if they wanted one. The reason there is no computer vs human games is because the programmers are not interested in computer versus human games. I asked some of the programmers what they prefer a round of amateur vs computers games or another round of computer vs computers games? All the programmers said given a choice they want another round of computer vs computers games instead of a round of amateur vs computers games. So there will no computer vs human games at the 19th Computer Shogi Championship in Japan. Sad but true.

Well given the choice of playing their excellent shogi programs versus mere amateurs, then I would also prefer to play versus other strong Shogi programs. I believe that they think that they are wasting their time by matching their Shogi programs which has already reached at leat 5 or 6 dan or more to an amateur with just 4 or 5 dan rating.

The amateurs only lost at the fast time of 1 hour/game. The amateurs would still beat the programs at the standard time of 2 hours. The programs never played the amateurs 2 hour games.

For a Go master playing a 4 or 5 Dan rated program is like a Chess GM playing a chess program that can only search 2 to 3 plys deep, at least that was the impression I was left with almost 15 years ago.

I think you are right about go programs. But we were talking about Japanese chess, shogi. The computer is just under the professional level or a strong amateur at 1 hour games. Standard time for shogi is 2, 4, 7 and 9 hours/game. Shogi professional level is equivalent to western chess grandmaster. The computer plays shogi better than go. The computer plays chess better than shogi.
