Avenger by Excalibur...a Shame

Post by fern »

Continuing with my tournament against all my dedicated unit, yesterday I tried to play Avenger by Excalibur, a little contrivance without info about the programer. I do not know why I ever though it was a good machine. Perhaps sometime I played it drunk. Fact is that in move 15 or so his King was trying to escape in the middle of my pawns ranks as a guy running away after being caught with the wife of the neighbourg.
I putted off the machine. It did not deserve to be mated by me.
So I am playing a very old but very decent machine. Sandy Encore, Morphy Encore in US.
More news later. I have sacrificed material to see what happens and things are unpredictable.-

as faras i see it with excalibur only the grandmaster and the igor
are serious machines.

i would like to see them produce stronger units than those 2 but i think everything they produce is weaker.

"Igor"? Are you sure?
BTW, the luttle handheld De Luxe is not weak, neither is so much Alexandra. Of course I agree with you they should try something better than these programs by old good chap Ron Nelson.
With so many programmer that has propduced so many engines far better than 2000 Elo, I cannot understand why they have not hired one of those or just purchased his engines.

Probably these Samole guys does not want to expend even in a coffee regards

Fern.
I'm fairly certain the programmer for the Avenger is Gyula Horvath
when you compare the Avenger to other chess computers Horvath programmed(Cxg Legend ,Krypton Regency..etc .etc.. ) the options ,levels ..etc etc are all the same
even the opening message that appears when you turn on the computer.."HELLO"...is the same for Horvath's computers
i think the Avenger is rated about 1800 Elo

Informative Regards

1800?
Never.
It played against me a so weak game that I almost fell dead of so much yawning.
Nevertheless I will give him another try. Perhaps he was drunk, not me

niggemanns rating is wrong.
how is niggemann evaluating the grandmaster ? i guess higher.
igor has the same program, only a smaller board with no magnetic board.

i would also say:if it is HELLO than this indicates the good old guyla horvath program... the program is really ~1800. it plays very passive.

in my dedicated tournament it is represented with the krypton regency.

its maybe a matter of playing style. it plays very passive, quite moves.
closed positions.
