Rybka 4 versus Shredder 12

Post by Sean Evans »

Hello chess friends,

Shredder 12 will be released soon if it already has not and Rybka 4 will inevitably released soon. Does anyone have an opinion on how close Shredder will be to Rybka 4 this time around ? May be within 100 ELO or 50 ELO.

Here is a question for you, would the author of Shredder be able to look at the code of Rybka 4 and incorporate the best ideas in Shredder 12 to increase it's strength?

Thank you in advance,

Sean :D

Although it is too early to tell with great accuracy how strong Shredder 12 is, it seems reasonably clear (I think that's being somewhat generous) that Shredder 12 is not as strong as Rybka 3 is.

Rybka 4 we can only guess about but it seems extremely unlikely that it would be released with only a few ELO increase (knowing the past history of Rybka releases it seems that 50 ELO is a reasonable expectation). If that holds true, then Shredder 12 will be well behind Rybka 4 when it arrives.

A very amazing question. Can you already tell me the difference in strength between the coming Hiarcs 15MP and Deep Fritz 16??

Hi, well we do have Rybka 4 Alpha results from tournaments. S12 is out now or soon, so I do not think some speculation on their relative strengths, i.e. ELO difference, is inconsequential. In fact, these two programs will likely be the two main contenders in future computer chess tournaments.

Cordially,

Why not Stockfish, Naum or Strelka 3? :)
Strelka 3 is stronger than Rybka 3, Stokfish looks to be close to Rybka 3.
I home SmarThink will follow in next few months :)

It's hard to predict, but I think Shredder will be ~100-150 points ahead of Rybka. But we will see, we haven't any reasonable stats.

Strelka 3 is stronger than Rybka 3,
How do you say that? Based on what testing results?

"Is it a boy or girl?"
YES! He replied.....
