This position came form a USCL match between Carlito Agner and Shaun Smith:
[d] 8/8/5k2/5p2/8/4R1p1/3Kp2P/3b4 w - - 0 70
Rybka claims Rxg3 and a score of greater than +3. At first Rybka shows a drawish score. It changes it mind around 27 ply and keeps it
that way up to 39 ply.
I don't see it. Everytime I look though the variations, Black can draw.
Neat position: Rybka claims win but it seems a draw

No idea why but I analyzed something almost like this previously. This only adds one trick but it is still a draw. Would be surprised if there is some super magic trick and it is not.

being more specific, black is safe if can go to the corner right? even with the h pawn.
It seems after Rxg3, f4, Rg1, f3, Ke1(or Ke3) Bb3 then white can do nothing without giving up the g file, letting black king go to the corner. And that's all there is to it.. after that variation the amyan I have ends up showing 0.00 too.

Interestingly, Crafty says the same thing (score not as big) but it starts to jump at depth 27, 28, etc. Not quite sure why but I am looking at it.CRoberson wrote:This position came form a USCL match between Carlito Agner and Shaun Smith:

Nevermind I got it all wrong. h pawn wins. not sure if always or when.

Re: Neat position: Rybka claims win but it seems a draw
Well, I analyzed a bit down with Quark, concentrating on a line like
Rxg3 f4 Rg1 Kf5
it seems that in this line black will always lose the f-pawn. Anyway, I wonder whether the resulting 6-men is still a draw. Can anyone try that out with a full set of 6-men ?

Hi, that's a draw isn't, maybe it's the power of the dark side you were talking about.

Thomas Mayer wrote:Well, I analyzed a bit down with Quark, concentrating on a line like
Rxg3 f4 Rg1 Kf5
it seems that in this line black will always lose the f-pawn. Anyway, I wonder whether the resulting 6-men is still a draw. Can anyone try that out with a full set of 6-men ?
