For me, It's DayDreamer 1.5
Mainly because of its stylish analysis lines.

Daydreamer is rated at 2386 in CCRL, so I'll have to choose an engine that's under 2300 from there.swami wrote:For me, It's DayDreamer 1.5

I'll go for the attractive playing styles of Atak and OliThink.Graham Banks wrote:Daydreamer is rated at 2386 in CCRL, so I'll have to choose an engine that's under 2300 from there.swami wrote:For me, It's DayDreamer 1.5

However, Atak can be brilliant or dreadful, and OliThink still has the piece giveaway bug that strikes every ten games or so.

Well, according to UEL, it's rated 2276.
You can ofcourse choose any engine and quote whatever ratings list to show that it's below 2300.

There are some marked differences between the two lists in question (and other lists also no doubt).
For example UEL has Stockfish 1.5.1 at 2804 ahead of Rybka 2.2n2 at 2784, whereas CCRL (1CPU) has Stockfish 1.5.1 at 2966 behind Rybka 2.2n2 on 2990.
However, I find all rating lists valuable in building an overall picture.

If I had to pick 3 engines less than 2200 in most lists, then my guess would be:Graham Banks wrote:Of course.swami wrote:Well, according to UEL, it's rated 2276.

Robin:
(has Pv about as stylish as Daydreamer)
ChessAlex:
(It doesn't play like a ordinary engine at all, tactically sharp relative to engines in its league)
Chenard:
(Liked the old chenard that came with its own GUI)

WJChess 1.64. Strong (~2200), stable, UCI, interesting games (sometimes).swami wrote:For me, It's DayDreamer 1.5
Mainly because of its stylish analysis lines.
It has a unique character of killing weaker engines, but underperforming when playing with stronger engines.
Number 87 in my tournament. (Details)

I'm curious, how it compares with Marginal 0.1? (a newer engine by the same author). I don't see Marginal in tournaments, does it have any big problems, or it's just weaker?swami wrote:ChessAlex:

I was always a Gromit fan, but that is probably over by just a little
