OliThink 5.2.2 released with 48MB Hashsize

Post by OliverBr »

Because of many requests for a version of OliThink with smaller Hashsize, I released now the Version 5.2.2 with 48MB Hash.

I needed it also for the Java Version of OliThink in order to fit in standard Java VM Heap Size of 64MB:

Download and other stuff as usual here:

http://home.arcor.de/dreamlike/chess/index.html

Request: As I don't have anymore MVSC installed, it would be nice of someone coulde created optimized 32bit and 64bit executables for Windows. On my site there is 32bit Mingw execetuable, but this is 20% slower than a MVSC executable would be.

Oliver - sorry for being persistent in asking, but did you find out the cause of the giveaway bug that previous versions had?

Cheers,
Graham.

Thanks for the new version with configurable hash.

It doesn't yet support the setboard function to be able to run it in test suites.

Don't worry. Graham, it is a great honor and pleasure that you persist in asking, but I have the huge problem that I couldn't reproduce the error on my maching so there is no chance for me to fix it.

I am very sorry... :( If you find a position, where it reproduces the problem whereever, I will be able to fix it...

Okay. I did provide you with some positions where it occurred with previous versions.

Although these games were with version 5.1.3, the problems persisted with later versions also. Could it have been something going wrong in the compiling process?
Also, try and contact David Weller. He had a similar bug in Xpdnt which he finally found and fixed. He might be able to offer something useful.

I'll give 5.2.2 a go anyway and see how things go. :)

Cheers,
Graham.

There are two ways to set up the board:

-As a command:

setboard <fen>

-Commando line:

-sd <searchdepth> "<fen>"

I remember that I tried one of those position and the engine didn't make any mistakes at that very position. So it's really hard to find and fix something.

Perhaps 5.2.2 is better, but I wouldn't hope too much... If anyone would provide some optimized MSVC binaries, would be nice.

I'll see if I still have any of the debug files from those games. Otherwise I'll make sure I send any new ones to you should similar problems occur.
Fingers crossed because I like the playing style of OliThink. :)

Graham.

Hi,
Unfortunately I took out Olithink 5.2.1 out of one of my tournaments because of this bug....8 games out of 20 were presented with this bug...
Here is an example:

[d]r2q1rk1/pb1n1ppp/1p2pb2/3n4/3Q4/1PN2NP1/PB2PPBP/R2R2K1 w - - 2 13

Olithink 5.2.1 played here Qf4??

I hope this horrible bug to be fixed soon as I also like the playing style of Olithink 8-)

Yes - same experience with 5.2.1. Have you tried 5.2.2 yet Wael?
