Forums are getting rather snippy!

Post by tomgdrums »

It has been disheartening to see how politically and emotionally motivated bot this and the Rybka forum have become.

It is one thing for little arguments to break out over which engine is better. Those can be fun and are part of the hobby. (kind of like who is the best baseball player of all time etc. etc.) But the type of arguments happening now have really divided people into one camp or another. It is starting to look a lot like the presidential election cycle!

Both this and the rybka forum are starting to remind of another squabbling entity: The USCF!

the difference here Tom is that there is an election of moderators taking place here.. right now
in another 4 Hrs in fact
the ONLY forum on the net where the members elect their own moderators unlike the commercial sites where the mods are appointed from up above
as we have several divisive issues before us alot of pent up steam is being released
once elections are through much of the emotion will subside

I think Regards

I hope so. The current controversies seem to have divided people into one of two teams. I for one can't make up my mind where I fall as both sides are making worthwhile arguments but even these are getting lost in all the vitriolic posting that is going on. Which then makes it even harder to really try to find the truth.

There's a fine line between a post and a signature.

This would require a substantial raise in my pay.

:D Hi Steve,

and maybe, the membership is more aware and vocal about posting their thoughts.

nothing wrong with civil/polite freedom of speech/expression.

afterall, this forum is really unique.
