From a study by Libiurkin and Bondarenko. I wonder how many engines can find the surprising shot in the solution. Anyway, White mates in less than 30.

Good job for Stockfish. The surprising shot is 5.Ke6!! and the Bishop is left there to obstruct Black King's path to c7. 5.Kxe5 only draws.zullil wrote:26 +7.35 00:06 52611k Nh4 Kg1 Nf3+ Kg2 Nxh2 Kxh2 e5 Bxe5 Ke6 Bd4 Kd7

Well, 1.Nh4 is not the point, as Fritz's -1.25 shows. How long does it take to find the line with 5.Ke6?GARGAMEL wrote:-/+ (-1.25) Tiefe: 5/9 00:00:00 2kN

If you look at the post you can see later clearly positive evaluation by Fritz so I guess that Fritz also see the point.

Re: Test position: surprising shot in the endgame
Sure Fritz sees it, but not at 00:00:00 as remarked by our friend. I posted the problem from this position because starting from ply 9, as suggested by Louis' post, is too easy for a good engine, I suppose.Uri Blass wrote:I guess that Fritz also see the point.

Re: Test position: surprising shot in the endgame
The surprise is that there are still strong programs that cannot see Ke6 even some plies later.Brunetti wrote:Good job for Stockfish. fruit considers Ke6 at depth 28 but does not change the pv to that move
Toga also get stuck in the same depth when it considers Ke6
You can say that maybe fruit and toga are weak programs so I tested Komodo with 256 mbytes hash and it got stuck at depth 33.
