Do they know the truth? Deep Shredder vs Deep Sjeng

Post by Robert Flesher »

I was just checking out some games on the chessbase server and came across an interesting game. The game is a Slav Botvinnik variation in which Deep Sjeng (black) plays a terrible move and gets a lost position. I am wondering if the tester was aware that his book is flawed. Cooked books are always a possibility, but huge blunders like this really end the struggle before it starts. Sjeng plays :

...9 Nxd5 , the normal and playable move is hxg5.

[d]rnbqkb1r/p4p2/2p1pn1p/1p2P1N1/2pP3B/2N5/PP3PPP/R2QKB1R b KQkq - 0 9

The game ended up a draw in a lost position for black. So maybe they realized the book error and agreed to a draw.

The game was played between the book maker of sjeng and the operator of sjeng.

Make your own conclusions now about it:)

Not sure what to think then, perhaps they are just testing new lines ?
However, the next game is very sharp and interesting. I find many novelties for my own games watching these monsters clash. It a wonderful age of laziness we live in, the machines do all the work, we just assimilate the brilliance. Although the knowledge is sometimes to much for this scotch dulled mind to digest.
