Gambit no. 9
English Opening
A22 Bellon Gambit
1.c4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Nf3 e4 4.Ng5 b5

Bellon Lopez, Juan Manuel
Federation Spain, FIDE title Grand Master, Rating: 2440 (jan 2010), born 1950, Spain.
Living creators (author, name giver, eponym, inventor, forger) of chess gambits are very rare, most of openings are already marked by the masters of the last centuries.
Here we have one. The picture shows Juan Manuel Bellon with his familiy. He is married with the well known Swedish world class player, Grandmaster Pia Cramling (Elo 2528, jan 2010) who takes the 6th place among the top 100 woman.
Bellon and Cramling belong today to the German Bundeliga team of SK Turm Emsdetten. The Bundesliga is the premier league of team chess Germany. It is probably the strongest and longest running league of its kind, attracting many top grandmasters from Europe and beyond.

Tim McGrew writes in ChessCafe: ....Now onward, and let me introduce the Bellon Gambit!
1.c4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Nf3 e4!? 4.Ng5 b5!?
According to all of my printed sources, this outrageous thrust was introduced by Juan Bellon Lopez against Samuel Reshevsky at Palma de Mallorca in 1971. But the ChessBase online database gives the game Weber-Bellon Lopez from the 1969 under 20 World Championship as the oldest game in the line. This is a bit of a mystery (Ed Winter, are you out there and listening in?) but apparently there is no need to worry about renaming the gambit....

One of the few execptions. Most of the selected GGT-gambits are accepted by all engines.

The human balance is much better once again. Who plays it in tournament, is well prepared. With a fit opening book the engines will score better too.

Starting evaluation in the view of the gambit player (Black) after 4. b5
(- )0,45 - (-0,7 ) cp for the gambit player
Mean = - 0,46.
After more gambits the means of evaluation will be correlated with the scores.

Firebird and Rybka once again with the same number of points, but the better scoring against Stockfish entails the tie-breaking for Rybka (46.75) . Fritz without a win.

378 games: +94 =158 -126
There are played now 378 games, 108 games of each engine, 18 games of each engine pair. Based on these data the prognosis for the final ranking is still fairly common. But just for fun, my rough prognosis for final ranking is:
Place 1-2 Firebird or Rybka (probably no significance)
Place 2-4 Naum, Stockfish, Deep Shedder (you can squint to the lists, but here is everything still open. I don't believe you get a significant selection for these three engines on this tournament.
Place 5 Zappa Mexiko (significant below rank 4)
Place 6 Deep Fritz (significant below Zappa)
Contrary to CEGT (40/20 4 CPU)and CCRL (40/40 4 CPU) Deep Fritz 11 should drop significantly below Zappa Mexico II on this tournament. There are a few hypotheses that this ranking will probably happen, but for the moment I let them still in the quiver of speculations.
