Comments:
Another exciting round!

Scorpio and Thinker played a rather uneventful draw while Zappa
outplayed Crafty in order to take a big leap towards the tournament top.

Spark outplayed Chess Tiger in a rather straightforward game.

Komodo won versus Onno in a nice game.

A contender for game of the round was the fight between Shredder and
Junior, where the latter found some nice tactics to almost take the full
point. However, the game ended in a draw after some strong endgame
play by Shredder.

Sjeng vs SmarThink ended in a draw after a pretty straightforward game.

The big matchup of the round was the clash between Stockfish and Naum
where the former won a nice victory.

This makes the top standings even more compact!

Comments:
Five engines within 1 point in the top standings now! Anything can happen with 2 rounds to go.

In the 11th round we saw all the leaders facing weaker opposition,
but only Stockfish, Komodo and Zappa managed to win their
games while Shredder and Naum had to settle with draws.

This means that Stockfish is now in the sole lead, with a half point down
to Zappa and Shredder. Komodo and Naum is chasing only one point
behind Stockfish.

In the 12th round we will have the big clash between Shredder and Naum,
while Komodo, Zappa and Stockfish all face easier opponents.

Comments:
Thinker won a nice game with the black pieces vs Chess Tiger.
Thinker hasn't played very well this tournament, so
anything but a win today wouldn't be acceptable.

Zappa won again, this time vs Spark. Zappa is still now one of
two engines still undefeated.

Crafty and Onno played a rather mediocre draw.

Scorpio played a nice game vs Junior to get win. It didn't seem Junior
had a clue what was going on, and a passed pawn proved to be too
strong in the end.

Komodo was too strong for SmarThink and got a nice win.

The big clash of the round between Shredder and Naum was a tense
affair which ended in a draw after 92 moves. Shredder had two Rooks
vs Queen and two Pawns.

Stockfish won vs Sjeng in the last game this round, to maintain its
unshared first place in the standings. Stockfish now needs only a
draw in the last round to secure at least shared first place.

There are some interesting pairings for the last round, Stockfish will play
Shredder and Naum will play Komodo. Zappa will have an easier round
with black against Thinker.

So the conclusion is that the winner is not decided until the last round has been played!

21. c6 from Stockfish-Naum was an interesting move:

[d] 1r1q1rk1/4bp1p/p2p2p1/1bPP1n2/p3NB2/3B4/1PQ3PP/4RRK1 w - -

Stockfish gave this a fairly large score (+1.77). My program doesn't score it nearly as high but does choose it as best, although it prefers g4 for quite a while.

Comments:
Congratulations to Stockfish for clinching the victory!

The game between Thinker and Zappa ended in a draw,
but was fairly interesting nonetheless.

Onno's two extra pawns was too much for Chess Tiger, so the former won a nice game.

Crafty simply outplayed Junior to take a nice victory,
the same can be said about SmarThink over Scorpio.

Naum vs Komodo was a tense affair which ended in a draw by repetition.

The big game of the round was without a doubt Shredder vs Stockfish.
Here the latter managed to hold to a draw, but it looked really bleak
for a long time. It was a fantastic game, perhaps the game of the
tournament. Highly chaotic and complicated.

Sjeng vs Spark ended in a draw.

Again, congratulations to Stockfish! Excellent effort also by Komodo.
Can't wait to get this baby in a SMP-capable version...

The next big event has now started: the Cutting Edge Team Tournament I.

Hope to see you all there!

Thanks for the tournament Martin.

Great victory by Stockfish, although I expected it. What I did not expect was Zappa's second place, very good result for Zappa and also Komodo. Chess Tiger was outclassed. It would have been better to get Rybka 3 (or Dynamic) instead.

Carlos

Thanks for following the tournament!

Indeed, Zappa played great here and shows that if the TC
is long enough it will jump up a few places in the rankings.

Rybka is back in my current tournament, but for this one I wanted a Rybka-free for a change.

Best Regards,
Martin
