About Mephisto boards

The Mephisto boards, those which a mudule can be attached, has a RS-232 connection. It strikes me that maybe a driver could be developed to connect the board directly to a PC, similar to novag citrine, instead of the module. The only needed thing is to know the protocol, or to figure how it work. Does anybody have a clue about this protocol or if this idea is feasible.
