Not sure what exactly you mean, here. Having an attack on an enemy piece in general resticts his choice of acceptable moves. If the piece is unprotected, or worth more than the attacker he must save it. Only a small fraction of his moves wil do that. If it is protected and equal or less valuable, it restrcts the moves of its protector. and if it is equal, it presents you with a choice to trade it or not, in almost any line.

More choice means that your best move will on average be better than when you have less choice.
