It is not every question that deserves an answer.

Quoting a misunderstood authority does not make it any better.

P.S.

I'm going to establish a new rating list myself soon. It will include two new rating categories:

- a*-factor of creator and
- i* of supporters.

Shall I name you two entrants who will take top places for sure?

Assuming published, standardized testing methods, and game downloads for community review are provided, the person running the test is irrelevant. It wouldn't bother me if Saddam Hussein came back from the grave to run the tests, as long it was fair and impartial.

I'd welcome a new organization / group that isn't afraid to test engines because of allegations one way or the other. After all, I would bet quite a large sum of money that even those who are of the opinion ippo* engines are derivatives/clones/etc have still tested and analyzed with them.

Lets test the engines first, and then leave the decision to actually use them up to the individual.

Is there a link for this list?

I searched in google and this is the link that I found

http://www.ccerl.net/

I can see the following numbers that seem to be a joke.

FireBird 1.2 0000
Iggorit v9 0000
Ippolit 80b 0000
IvanHoe 63 0000
RobboLito g3 0000
Tankist 1.2 0000
TobyTal 0000

yes, imo it's about time for this. who cares who is behind it as long as it's run fairly. norman is apparently the only one with the sac to actually officially test ippolit & post results, & stockfish, komodo & critter will be giving the ippos trouble in the near future which should be fun.

this'll also be a valuable tool for the budget inclined just discovering or researching computer chess.

in the professional/amateur discussion on another thread it was proposed (and i agree) that to clarify & simplify understanding the categories in computer chess should be changed to 'free' and 'commercial' engines. i think this will be a very nice resource for the former, as just about everyone heavily involved with chess -- much less computer chess, knows about these 'forsaken' engines (which happen to be easily downloadable at a nice, clean, website with its own domain!) even if they don't understand or know what ippolit is.

ah, i thought this was new news. now i see it appears to have been just a website advocating very fast time control games between ippolit and rybka...oh well.

if anyone else is interested in something like a free chess engine rating list, prob modeled on something like the CCRL, let me know.
