yes, there's probably tons of toying around with settings...by accounts i've read R4 is about 50 elo with a much different evaluation. if the eval itself added the elo that would be one thing but it appears this is not the case...it's just markedly different (less 'solid', more speculative), yet the search is presumably faster -- depending on what vas chooses to do, of course.

Rybka 4=a personality of Rybka 3 with minor tweaks and +40-60 Elo at best....

Hi Ed,if you see this kind of test opening..it's like the engine is already much stronger and then try to see if it can even win from a bad start position,or at least make a draw...

Why else you do this..you want to see how the engine react on these games!

I would estimate that about half of the predicted +50 Elo is from faster and/or better search and the other half from better eval. The eval is not so different from R3 in general, just in certain areas (king safety and endgames mostly).

Dear Larry, your mentioned 50 ELO gain of Rybka4, is this based on your testgames or are they just a guess ?
