Hi - I'm a relatively new user of Arena. It doesn't seem like it can handle swiss engine tournaments - is this true? If so, why not? It seems like a simple addition.
Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere - I couldn't find it in a quick search of the forum.

I think there is a plugin to handle swiss-system tournaments. Look through the User Files/Engines section of http://playwitharena.com/Peteshnick wrote:Hi - I'm a relatively new user of Arena. Hi,
Arena can't do Swiss Tournament by itself. However there is a programm called Arena Swiss, see news item 184 on the Arena page.
And it is not as easy if you want to make it right...

Swiss tourneys are built into Arena, no plugin required.alpha123 wrote:I think there is a plugin to handle swiss-system tournaments. Re: Dumb question about Arena
Swiss system tournaments are hard to get right. I've seen situations arise in human swiss tournaments that human directors have had a hard time determining what to do. I guess that the extra pain involved in programming for swiss tournaments is not worth it. However, 'Chess War' seems to do a good job with swiss events, so maybe Olivier might be the person to ask.Peteshnick wrote:Hi - I'm a relatively new user of Arena. If you are on a sidewalk and the covid goes beep beep
Just step aside or you might have a bit of heat
Covid covid runs through the town all day
Can the people ever change their ways
Sherwin the covid's after you
Sherwin if it catches you you're through

Re: Dumb question about Arena
Hi Peter,
Swiss tournaments are not possible in Arena. In one of the Arena versions a very easy code for swiss tournaments added. But it dosn't work correctly. Years ago Volker Annuss wrote a tool for Arena and Swiss tournaments. The tool are a long time available on Arena webpage (around in the year 2004 / 2005 I believe). Not looking for the old tool again, perhaps its available today too.
I don't used a long time Arena but if the Swiss tournament code add in the actual Arena version, it's the very easy code Martin created for years.
With other words:
If you like Swiss tournaments you should try out the Fritz interface.
Best
Frank
An old wish in the time I gave my energy for the Arena project. But we never have the time for it. A really good swiss tournament mode isn't easy to create.
The best swiss tournament mode I saw comes from the German tournament manager "SwissChess" - commercial program -. I used SwissChess in ther past for 40 in 120 tournaments with Engines
Absolutley perfect softwae, but not for Engine-Engine matches.
