Stockfish plans ?

Post by Lion »

Hi all,

Is there any news about what are the plans for Stockfish ?

Is a newer version supposed to be released soon or will it come later during the Year ?

On what are there working ? Search, evals ?
Are there in good shape to make progress since the amazing version 1.7.1 which plays brilliantly !

It will be released when it's ready, just stay online.

This sounds very good...

Will the new Stockfish has a little update from 100Elo and called 1.8 or it will be a big gain and go directly to Stockfish 2.0

MMMM.. few days ago some guy "Sppudybuddy" from Rybka forum wrote some like :
"<R4 will be out in a few days.>

great news, btw theres a new engine, modified stockfish, able to run on 16 core, in the making, beta tests thrashed R3 mp...release date set a week after R4 and FREE,
hope R4 performance lives up to expectation, your take"
other user question:
I mean, what is the source of your claim?.
Spuddy Buddy:
"I cant tell u, but u'll see it after R4, the team is pretty certain of 'crushing' R4, so all i can say is hold off ur purchase until
the release of "Super Engine", definetly shall be release within a week of R4 release.
had the opportunity to test the 16 core version beta against R3, all I can say a slaughter, of 100 gms R3 managed 11 draws, 89 losses...there u go"
More than a week since R4 release and nothing about this MegaMonster... so it could be a joke, but how Know??

Regards 8-)

There are no 16 cores version crushing anything...sorry.

Actually we are struggling to get some elo difference from 1.7.1, not because we have not addedd new stuff (although not a lot real new features, mainly cleanup patches) but we are at the moment fighting against a possible regression that we don't know where it came from.

We have all the history of the modifications so far, but are a lot and finding the wrong one that slept in is not easy and it will take some weeks (if we are lucky), hoperfully this will teach us better and more reliable ways of testing.

Anyhow no new SF release on the horizon ;-)

If we are able to build up a release that increases strenght of 30-40 ELO (it means to reach Rybka 3 level) I would already be super happy...but we are far from that now.

Best of luck working on that :(.

EDIT: Oh, and thanks for clearing up the 16-cores thing.

Hi,

that what I like on Stockfish and the programmers. Great answers to his fans, also about the development.

Perhaps, I am the biggest Stockfish fan :-)

Like the dynamic in the Stockfish games.
Thats for me perfect computer chess and the best is ... all is bugfree.

Good luck for the Stockfish team !!

Best
Frank
