Fritz 12

Post by Nimzovik »

Ok - I had a few beers (only way I would do this) and now want the Fritz 12 (not deep.) Yes know Fritz 12 is not up to speed with current engines. However I need to renew my play chess and want the Fritz 12 Gui update. However if I read the site right one can only download the deep version. How in the world do they expect me to indulge my impusle buying. Chessbase is it's own worse enemy in terms of making money. I (personally ) am tired of the chess assistant club(not enuff graphiics etc.) FICS here I come. For tonite anyway. Deep Sigh.........

good luck Alex.
I hope it works out.
Chessbase is challenging, trying to keep up.
12 is so weak compared to Rybka 4.
I bought DF 12 and went over there and looked around for awhile.
The place was all smoked up, loud music, ugly women, no fun.
At chessbase you can use big hardware and Rybka 4, but top guys have best book or play their own ids for rating.
It used to be fun when Shredder and Tiger were growing with hardware---completely different now.

Agreed, unless you have the latest overclocked processor as well as a book with 100's of man hours spent improving it, it is usually no fun.

Yah...... It is not so much I wanna compete an engine.... Doing book research and jes fer fun chess (blitz). Worked on a Larsen's opening (with 'ghost Hippo' ,Albino Nimzo KP pawn systems, Anti KID systems (90% not involving a white pawn on d4) and a form of Queens Indian Attack ala mirroring the classical Kings's Indian Attack ideas (ineteresting against a Stonewall setup and others but best perhaps against black systems with a knight on c6.) and many other unusual but sound (also never mentioned in other works by say Jacobs/tait and Odessky) and logical lines for Larsen's Opening- the Larsen's bishop does not (nor should not in many lines) go to b2. All computer checked of course. Also a "black's' book. based on 1.... e6 and 2.....b6. Again bishop often does always not go to b7. The book is very Hypermodern (not to mention extensive to say the least) in the classical sense (seems like a misnomer eh wot?) and ergo not good (very anti computer) for computers often. 30 plus years and I am still discovering intricacies. I did not do a completely through repeating of Bird/Larsen Lines as they are already heavily ananlyzed. All computer checked of course. Interesting how computer says line is bad and then reverses itself moves down the variation. Computers do not understand closed positions as well as open ones. This is not news. As Tatrtakower says "Any opening is good enuff to play as long as it's reputation is bad enuff!"
However health is bad. Daughter has instructions to upload this work to this site as a freebie upon my demise if worse comes to worse. She is also to assume my account. She loves the chess thinkers forum. We have had many debates together on the responses there. She is only 15 yrs old. She loves Majestic chess and Power chess and Grandmaster. Wonderful kid. Will probably marry a (Catholic) chess player some day... Could not ask for a better chess wife some day in the offing. Been trained well!! However I wax on. Thanks for your replies.

Which country do you live in Alex? In the US, you can go to the local department store and get Fritz 12 for about $30 or less. This can satisfy your impulse at a reasonable cost. I assume similar options exist for other countries.

It may not qualify as a quick impulse buy if obtained thru Amazon after shipping :)
