Hello everybody,
I'd very much appreciate some help about weird crashes of Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate.
Basically, the software, whether running with admin rights or not, crashes after every compilation, successful or not. If a build was successful, the binaries are there alright, but it's still annoying and very hard to find out where the syntax errors are in case of failure...
So, has anybody had a problem like that before? I haven't really found the key to the problem through Google.
Here's a screenshot, but it's just the usual "XXX doesn't work anymore" message.
Many thanks in advance for any ideas how to track this down.

Did you try running it with compatibility set to an earlier version of windows?
If you are on a sidewalk and the covid goes beep beep
Just step aside or you might have a bit of heat
Covid covid runs through the town all day
Can the people ever change their ways
Sherwin the covid's after you
Sherwin if it catches you you're through

Re: Visual Studio 2010 keeps crashing
Just tried it, but it didn't help.
I tried the following also:
Uninstalling Visual C++ 2008 Express which was there before.
Repair installing VS 2010.
Run it as admin.
Nothing helped.
EDIT: I've just found out, that the reason is an unhandled exception in devenv.exe, but I haven't found anything about this on the internet yet.

Re: Visual Studio 2010 keeps crashing [SOLVED]
I managed to figure it out, as I finally stumbled across a Microsoft ticket:
http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStud ... ss-crashes
It's weird that the Internet Explorer had something to do with it, and also weird that this hadn't been configured properly by the installer. It should work if you install it with admin rights, though, as the command in question only succeeds when the console has admin rights.
Allright, I hope that this will help to save googling effort for users here who happen to run into the same problem. It seems to not be an issue of Express vs. Professional vs. Ultimate but of Windows 7.
Cheers,
Oliver
Code: Select all
If you are using 64-bit Windows 7, you must use the following command line as an administrator:
regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Internet Explorer\ieproxy.dll"It's weird that the Internet Explorer had something to do with it, and also weird that this hadn't been configured properly by the installer. It should work if you install it with admin rights, though, as the command in question only succeeds when the console has admin rights.
