Hello Jouni,

It is not over, but as the rating of R3 is out of the error bar after the games already played I am quite sure I can congratulate on that already!

So: Congratulations ... unfortunately there is the next competitor ahead and to be beaten :-)

Thanks for all your (and your team mates) work, I really enjoy Stockfish!

Bye

I think you're confusing Jouni with Joona. That's already the second time this year; maybe one of them should change his name.

No wonder if Jouni and Joona are mixed, when both are in Finnish calender at 29.3. I have also confused Ingo Bauer with Bernard Bauer.

Hi Ingo,

thanks a lot for your professional and incredibly fast feedback. Your tests are real an official mark for all the comunity (together with other testers of course)

I agree with you that 4 releases in 8 months is a bit too much for a chess engine, but please consider that SF is open-source. This is not a secondary detail: open source software normally is release with shorter cycles then commercial-closed source one and for a reason.

Anyhow I agree with you (FWIW) that list needs to be "weed" out from this SF inflation ;-)

Thanks
Marco

Thanks for the support I am happy to get it from time to time. :-) Even if I might be the "fastest" all the other lists are important as a control for all the other testers and I dont want to miss them (some more some less ;-) ).
Regarding the "fast" time control I am actually quite happy. It seems I hit a sweet spot. It is not too fast and leaves the enignes some time to think (16 min per game average) and it is not too slow so that it is possible to produce a resonable number of games in a resonable amount of time. Right from the beginning I was a bit anoyed by the fact that I cant and dont want to publish the games, but in the last monthes and weeks I start to consider that as an advantage as I am only playing with a limited set of positions. If this would be published I am not sure if the IPON would still be that neutral. But this is a double edged sword ... :-( :-)

I know that an open source project can't be compared with a "yearly" release of a comercial engine, and therefore I am willing to add about 4 Versions of an engine a year, but think about what would have happened if I would have added all the Littos (no need for that anymore, looks like a dead horse!) I would end up with a couple of hundred engines within a 20 Elo range. For sure this would influence the other engines. Basicaly it is the same with stockfish. Engines who cant deal with its playing style are pushed down in ranking others might increase. To avoid that I have to do something manualy. I feel like a gardener, to keep your work "pretty" one has to weed sometimes regardless if I like to do that or not ... and thats FWIW.
(At the moment I tend to remove SF 1.8, smallest number of games, more or less identical to 1.9.)

Nonetheless thanks again and happy new year!
Ingo
