I have casted the Chinese traslation of WinBoard, which did exist in the static form (i.e. as a separate executable), into the format of a language file for the dynamic (interactive) translation. I have no idea if it really works, though, as my systems do not have the required language support.
Can someone with a Chinese Windows system test this for me? The bnary and language files are all included in the installer that can be downloaded from:

I have now also created a traditonal-Chinese language file, by running the other one through a GB3212 to Big5 converter. Even less idea if that works, but I included it in the above download as well.
Any feedback is welcome.

Thanks very much for your work, Mr. Muller!
I have take the test on my own computer, and the following is the screencut when running Mr. Muler's Winboard. But there is no chinese word on the menu. Should I setting some options to change the language?
BTW: Very happy to see Mr. Muller! Since the ElephantBase BBS was closed, I haven't seen Mr. Muller for a long time until I came to Talkchess:D~
Screencut when I run ElephantEye engine on winboard:

Re: WinBoard 4.5.0 Chinese
You must first switch it to Chinese from the Help menu. (Next time WinBoard will then automatically start in that language.) You should see items
English
Chinese(simp)
Chinese(trad)
Vietnamese
there. At least when you ticked the checkboxes for the corresponding languages during the install (or the collapsed group "International Versions"). By default these are not selected for install. For every language you install there should be a .LNG file in the WinBoard folder.
You can only expect it to work for languages that use character sets supported by your Windows system. (So on a simplified-Chinese Windows, traditional Chinese and Vietnamese will not work. But English will work, as ASCII is a subset of the BG2312 code page.)
It is indeed very sad that the Elephantbase BBS is still down. Is there any chance it will ever get back? Perhaps we should start a new forum outside China? No one ever uses Qianhong forum.
I have not done any work on my Xangqi engine for nearly a year; I was too busy writing a Shogi engine. I am now running a bullet tournament with all UCCI engines, including some of the newer versions and Cyclone, (10 games per pairing), to update my WinBoard & Xiangqi web pages. It will finish in a few days.

Hi HG and Ma Chao,
The Elephantbase forum is down and becomes the commercial site http://www.xqbase.com/ . You may try another free Chinese Forum http://www.rsjy.net/ . There is UCCI engine sub-forum where the former UCCI authors discuss xiangqi there.
HG, glad to know you will update your xiangqi page. I will send you my latest eychessu1889m xiangqi engine for your xiangqi tournament.
Thanks!
Edward Yu

Re: WinBoard 4.5.0 Chinese
Mr.Muller:
I have installed the Winboard in Chinese language, the menu and windows all became Chinese(simp). All Chinese words were correct, but some words were left without translation. For example: "View" and "Engine" in the menu was still in English. In the "Action" menu, "Two Machines" was also English, too.
These are the two screencut, with my advised translation:

Thank you, Mr. Yu! I don't know whether there would be a good chance for auntyellow to open the ElephantBase again in the future, but in Ri Sheng Jia Yuan BBS, I have really found many old friends!~
And, was Mr. Yu the famous ID "Feng Yun Jian"?
